Exam Week

I must apologize to all my readers – I have been absent for a few days and unable to get a new 52 Weeks of Health post done. This is Trimester Exam week at the school where I teach and I have been inundated with work – writing exams and correcting exams and other papers. My brain is feeling pretty mushy and I’m not doing so well at organizing my thoughts.

I challenge you as you await my next post to review the steps to health that I have suggested so far. How are you doing – are you working your way to an A+ in health? Are you consistently eating your greens? How about getting quality sleep and plenty of water? Have you reduced your sugar intake at all?  Please post a comment below and let us know how you are doing. What is working for you? What are you struggling with? What would you like me to blog about? Spend some time and get re-motivated to be the healthiest you can be.  I’ll be back in a couple of days with more steps and more information. I promise!

    I had intended to be more disciplined with a daily food journal. I’ll keep trying. We have been doing well with greens, fair with water, good sleeping habits, improving drinking green tea (not a favorite), far less sugar, not in the habit of drinking sugary sodas at all, walking frequently icy roads permitting and mainly watching portions more carefully.

    • Sounds like you are doing well, Sally. As far as the green tea goes – if you find it bitter, perhaps you are brewing it too long or at too high a temperature. If you just can’t get it to where you like it don’t drink it. I think eating and drinking should be enjoyable. If green tea isn’t your “cup of tea” then stick with water. There are plenty of other ways to get your antioxidants; for me green tea is a delicious way to get them, but it won’t be for everyone.

    I’ve been a bit sporadic in my attention to this new healthy course. My water intake has improved, the green tea habit is already there which I’m glad about, I’ve made the broccoli/spinach breakfast casserole a couple of times now which is yummy, so those are positives. Gotta work on the sugar – more so the carbs with the hidden sugar. Ready for another Hannaford consult so I can find the ingredients for the lotion – very interested in making that! Looking forward to vacation next week so I can really concentrate on starting some new habits. Hope the next few days go well for you as you finish up this crazy time before vacation.

    I’m learning to like green tea better and the brand I have has added lemon. .

    • I can completely relate! I do believe, though, that I am my own worst enemy in this because I do not consistently follow my own advice. I either stay in front of this monitor right up to a decent bedtime which seems to cause me to wake up 3 or 4 hours later, or I stay up far too late to begin with. I need to work on that because being overtired makes it easier to make bad food decisions and to skip exercise.

      • Isn’t it said that a doctor is always their worst patient. :) It isn’t easy to follow our own advice. It’s much easier to know whats right then to do what we know sometimes. Sleep tends to be my enemy and yes the cause of many skipped workouts or at least the excuse for it. That’s why babysteps and not beating ourselves up is so important.
